The February issue of Which magazine included an excellent article by Olivia Howes who was quizzing the experts on how to hold back time by staying mentally and physically fit. Included in the article was advice from Professor Gill Livingston and Dr Naaheed Mukadam, Division of Psychiatry, University College London, that ‘you can increase your ‘cognitive reserve’ (the brain’s ability to maintain function and adapt despite neurological damage or deterioration) by engaging in a variety of cognitively stimulating activities, such as reading, crosswords or puzzles’.
